Race the Sun

THIS IS THE 8TH YEAR of this exciting triathlon-style challenge to raise funds for Action Medical Research. Teams of four are required to complete cycle, climb and canoe legs starting at sunrise and finishing by sunset – racing the sun! They will cycle a total of approximately 50 miles (80kms), hike to the summit of England’s second highest mountain - Helvellyn at 3,116ft (950m) - and canoe a 2.5 mile (4kms) course on Thirlmere. It is a tough challenge but, with training, it is achievable. The fastest team completed the course in 6hrs 33mins in 2004 - setting a new record for this unique event which has not yet been broken. Others may struggle to finish during the hours of daylight – approximately 12 hours in September.

RACE THE SUN is an exciting action event that is achievable by people who are fit and who have put in plenty of training beforehand. We will provide you with all the information and support you will need to safely complete this exciting and testing event. We will also endeavour to help you as much as we can with your fundraising, although when you explain to people exactly what your challenge is you should have little problem raising funds. Register your team today for this unique and very special UK challenge.
